The Opportunity
As part of our Maintenance group and reporting to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Maintenance, the Systems Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing a group of Systems Technicians in the execution of light rail systems maintenance. This is a full-time permanent management opportunity based in Waterloo, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities and Functions
Leadership:
- Be a leader and promote RailTerm’s safety culture and compliance to standards and policies;
- Be an ambassador of RailTerm when interacting with customers, suppliers and employees;
- Report and escalate all accidents/incidents and participate in the incident investigation and review processes;
- Act as a role model when it comes to safety, quality of work and efficiency of operations.
Employee Oversight and Maintenance Coordination:
- Direct, coordinate and support the work of the Systems Group, under the direction of the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Maintenance;
- Mentor and train Systems Technicians;
- Perform annual employee reviews;
- Plan and schedule all preventative maintenance tasks throughout the year;
- Create, review & approve Work Orders;
- Review reports and logs to determine root cause of failures;
- Maintain the department’s annual operations within budget and forecasted expenditures;
- Ensure that the work performed by the group of Systems Technicians is in accordance with the Project requirements and applicable standards;
- Perform reporting duties as per the Maintenance Plan, customer and Region of Waterloo requirements;
- Act as a leader in terms of safety, providing guidance and information on safety practices, procedures or policies;
- Perform Safety Audits and follow-up on non-compliances and corrective actions. Participate in accident investigations and disciplinary measures if and when required;
- Provide technical support to the Systems Technicians;
- On-call coverage for emergency response;
- Shifts may include afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in railway systems (signals & communications) installation or maintenance;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as team leader (supervisor or manager);
- Proficient in the use of computers (ex: Word, Excel, Outlook, smartphone etc.);
- Ability to read, write and speak English clearly;
- Post-Secondary education diploma in a relevant field (ex: electronics, telecommunications, etc.) is an asset;
- Experience with Signal Systems and Automatic Warning Devices;
- Experience with Communications Systems, including Fibre Optics and Radio Systems;
- Ability to read and comprehend drawings and specifications;
- Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills;
- Ability to manage priorities and plan work accordingly;
- Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of escalating issues;
- Ability to make decisions when needed;
- Safety minded work ethic.

Key Responsibilities and Functions
The TP & OCS Journeymen are responsible for preventative maintenance of all electrical components of light rail traction power and overhead contact systems (TP/OCS).
- Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications for light rail traction power and overhead catenary systems;
- Inspect and test electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with standards;
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem;
- Work in a safe manner, maintain a safe and organized work area by observing all safety policies and procedures, applying safety training;
- Work collaboratively with other team members (track maintainers, systems technicians, etc.) in meeting standards and regulations;
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of all required information;
- On-call coverage for emergency response on a rotating basis.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Have a Powerline Technician Certification;
- Have a Journeyman Electrician Certification;
- Be in at least the 3rd year of an Apprenticeship Electrician program;
- Experience working in bucket trucks at height;
- Experience in a railway or LRT environment;
- Safety oriented;
- A valid DZ License required;
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs;
- Time Management;
- Organizational skills;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Functional computer skills (MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word).

Reporting to the Director of Software Systems, the Software Developer is a member of RailTerm’s rail traffic control software development team, developing and supporting mission critical software for railways and transit authorities across North America. This position is based in Mississauga, Ontario with occasional travelling including to the United States.
Key Responsibilities and Functions
- Develop applications using Java/Eclipse and C++/Visual Studio;
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements to release;
- Provide support for in service software;
- Work effectively in a small team environment;
- Coordinate software implementation processes with customers;
- Communicate with Project Managers during the design and implementation phase of projects;
- Train and educate users on a variety of topics relating to the software;

The Software Project Manager is responsible for project and documentation management while interfacing with clients on complex and technical railway projects. This role involves handing multiple projects simultaneously and taking them from initial concept to the final delivery stages. This position is based in Mississauga with occasional travelling to the United States.
Key Responsibilities and Functions
- Act as the primary point of contact and interface with the customer from the beginning until completion of complex/technical projects;
- Take the lead and coordinate activities to ensure that the project is executed in accordance to the schedules, budgets, designs;
- Take ownership in terms of problems and issues raised by client, addressing them to the appropriate resource internally and ensuring that actions taken are documented accordingly;
- Negotiate with clients when claims or contract variations arise;
- Participate actively in meetings with clients to assess and understand documentation requirements (technical and non-technical);
- Liaise with the internal technical/design resources in order to obtain reporting as per customer requirements and in the proper format;
- Organize and conduct meetings with internal stakeholders involved (project administrators, technical resources, management) to review progress in delivery of projects;
- Coordinate the testing and commissioning activities with the client.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Curiosity, resourcefulness and eager to resolve problems;
- 5+ years experience managing delivery of technical projects (i.e. IT, communications, software, etc.);
